Day 5 : NCFE Llanbedr Departure

Following a nights cleaning and packing today was a simple task, which comprised of getting up eating breakfast and packing their final items for departure.

During final parade each student received their Bronze National Navigation Award.

The Learner's Journey Home began at 08.30

We await the arrival of the First Diploma Group, who will be arriving Monday 7th March 2011

You all seem to have a least a little smile on your faces which suggests to me that you are spending far too long in bed. Get some (more) phys done immediatley!

I hope you all will take something away (in your head, not pockets) with you after this week.

It is a once in a lifetime opportunity for those who will not go into the services, its the beginning of the rest of your life for those who do.

You wanted to experience service life? well you've now had the taster, only you can stop yourself now. Dig deep, muscle on with your remaining assignments and start to look to the future.

Llanbedr exceeds its standards in many unique ways from its physical activities that not only tests the endurance and strength of ones capabilities but also helps to improve and maintain knowledge of the foundation of what the public services are made of.

Llanbedr has helped me significantly improve many interests within the uniformed public services physically and mentally, I now feel that I am a step closer to the public service that I wish to join. Before upon arriving at Llanbedr I persuaded myself not to dare to attempt any of the high ropes course elements. When I first set eyes upon the high ropes course its height intimidated me. Well that what I thought, until I got the support and aid of two second year nationals, my peers and members of staff.

The support helped me conquer all three elements of the high ropes course. I felt extremely proud and I confirmed to myself that this was a true accomplishment I felt that I had beat my fear of heights. This example clearly shows the teamwork and cooperation that was demonstrated at lambedr.

It would be a shame for any public service student to have to miss out on such an opportunity, students who miss this chance may not achieve their full potential.

Since attending Llanbedr our communication skills have improved greatly because of the activities that we have had practised.

Our confidence and determination has also improved when doing the high ropes course, as some of us were scared of heights but have still put the effort in to get as high has they can.

As a result of the morning runs for our fitness levels have improved.

We have learned how to live with one another and about each other.

Coming to Llanbedr has changed me, before I came to Llanbedr I was lazy and had no confidence. But since I have been here a week I have started to become more independent and confident. I have learnt lots of new skills such as map reading. I learn about pacing and how to use the map and compass properly. I am extremely proud of myself as I have gained my bronze navigation award today.

I have learnt alot about discipline and uniformed service routines. We have had room inspections every day and had to clean the kitchens toilets and bedrooms. In order to get this done in time we have had to work together as a team. I feel that this camp is good because you learn new skills and also teaches you things that will help me when I join my chosen service, the things that i have learnt will also help me in civilian life as well.

Llanbedr is good because we have been away from our normal life's and have had to do things for our self instead of our parents doing everything for us. I don't have to do much chores at home were as here at Llanbedr I have done cleaning, cooking, looking after kit, getting things prepared for the next days activities and if that wasn't enough I have also participated in activities such as canoing, high ropes, walking and navigation.

I have learnt how to be confident in who I am and how to commit myself to a given task. Doing the high ropes I felt really scared at first but the rest of my group shouted at me and gave me the confidence to get to the top. In order to get to the top we had to pull each other up the various poles the gaps got bigger and bigger the higher up we went. Once at the top i felt extremely proud of myself and my team all manage to get to the top were as other groups didn't get that far. The staff at llanbedr are very help full and will push you to do everything even when at times you want to give up.
